Star Trek 3 Beams Into Theaters July 8, 2016 To Commemorate 50th Anniversary

Paramount Pictures isn’t wasting anymore time now that it has found a new director for the third movie of the rebooted Star Trek film series. The studio announced that “Star Trek 3” is set to be released on July 8, 2016 – marking the 50th anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series which aired on September 8, 1966 on NBC.

The news comes a day after Justin Lin, director of several of the “Fast & Furious” films, was announced as the movie’s new director after Robert Orci stepped down. Orci, who helped write the scripts for the previous two reboot films, took the captain’s chair after J.J. Abrams left as a result of his commitment to direct Disney’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”

Paramount appears to be determined to release the third Star Trek movie in time for the franchise’s 50th anniversary. Lin was announced as the movie’s new director two weeks after Orci stepped down for unknown reasons. Orci, along with Abrams, will still be producing “Star Trek 3.”

Do you think “Star Trek 3” will leave spacedock in time for its release date?
