Skype Takes A Knee With Widespread Global Service Interruption
More than one problem is bugging Skype at the moment, but by far its largest issue is that, for many Skype users, all contacts are showing as offline. Not only does this mean that you can’t see who is available for a Skype call – it also means that you can’t Skype call them, even if you know they are online. Skype (understandably) can’t make calls to users that it believes aren’t connected.
Users also aren’t able to change their own statuses.
We are aware of an issue affecting Skype status at the moment, and are working on a quick fix: http://t.co/ymSzmrgEX0 pic.twitter.com/8LoqqL0hh7

Of course, that’s assuming that you can get into Skype at all. Some Skype users are having trouble logging into the service, while others are finding that credit balances and other aspects of Skype are displaying properly. The Skype Community is also experiencing trouble.
“We’re doing everything we can to fix this issue and hope to have another update for you soon,” the Skype team wrote in its post. “Thank you for your patience as we work to get this incident resolved.”
The trouble follows Skype’s move to put Mojis – short video clips depicting human emotions – on its service to spice up chats. Skype worked with Universal Studios and others to bring short clips from popular movies into its collection. There’s no indication that the Mojis have anything to do with today’s problems.
