Size Matters: Lenovo Announces Three Different Size Android Tablets
Most of us learned the lesson that one size doesn't fit all from Goldilocks and her little crime spree that included a B and E and porridge theft. Apparently it's one that Lenovo is also familiar with, hence the company's roll out of not one, but three different size Android tablets, including the 7-inch TAB A7-50, 8-inch TAB A8, and 10.1-inch TAB A10.
Starting with the smallest of the three, the TAB A7-50 sports an IPS touchscreen panel with a 1280x800 resolution, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable), 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, a SIM bay, 3.450 mAh battery, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box (Lenovo says an upgrade to KitKat is available).
That's a serviceable spec sheet for a tablet, though Lenovo's pitching it as an "affordable on-the-go reading companion," which is a fancy way of saying e-book reader. Lenovo might be underselling it a bit there. Regardless, it will be available in May starting at $129 for the TAB A7-40, which is the same as the A7-50 except it doesn't have a rear-facing camera.
Second to bat is the TAB A8, which delivers home entertainment on the move. The specs are nearly identical to the A7-50, except that it has a bigger battery (4200 mAh) and front-facing speakers with Dolby audio. It's a bit interesting that Lenovo didn't bump up the resolution, as you're getting a bigger display, but the amount of on-screen real-estate will be the same with less densely packed pixels. In any event, it will be avaliable in May starting at $179.
Finally, the TAB A10 enters the scene, which itself is a larger version of the TAB A8. The only difference (other than size and weight) is that it comes with a 6340mAh battery. This one will also be available in May, though priced at $249, or $299 with optional Bluetooth keyboard.
