Rumor Suggests Ice Cream Sandwich Could Come Sooner Rather Than Later

Rumor after rumor has suggested that Apple will be releasing a new iPhone at some point in the relatively near future. Depending on who you listen to, the latest iPhone could be announced as early as this month. Now, a new rumor suggests that Google may push up the release date of its next version of Android, known as Ice Cream Sandwich, in an effort to better compete with the iPhone.

When Google announced Ice Cream Sandwich, the company said it would be available sometime this year. Rumors then suggested the release would be near Thanksgiving in order to enable Google, manufacturers, and carriers to take advantage of the holiday shopping season. If Google moves the release up, the latest version of Android could come as early as October.

The Ice Cream Sandwich release will represent more than just an update to the Android operating system. This platform will be a unified system that will run on tablets, phones, and Google TV. By enabling a single platform for all of these devices, Google is hoping to offer a more seamless ecosystem.
