Roku Devices Get YouTube App Now Available In The Channel Store
At long last, you don't need two streaming boxes just to have a suite of services on one, and YouTube on the other. Roku has made a name for itself in the streaming box industry, but it has lacked perhaps the most demanded channel on the planet for as long as the company has existed. Yes, we're talking about YouTube. This week, Roku announced that it was adding a YouTube streaming channel to its Roku Channel Store for all current-generation Roku devices in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, and Ireland.
Plus, you can also send YouTube videos from your Android devices, iPhone and iPad to your TV, when you’re connected on the same Wi-Fi. Current generation players are those introduced after July 2011 and include the Roku LT, Roku 1, Roku 2, Roku 2 HD, Roku 2 XD, Roku 2XS, Roku 3, the Roku Streaming Stick (both HDMI and Roku Ready versions) and the Roku HD model #2500. If your Roku box is older than that, however, you'll be left out in the cold (and encouraged to upgrade, of course).
Honestly, this makes Roku a much more compelling option now. In the past, you could pick up a Roku, but if you wanted to stream YouTube at all, you'd also need an Apple TV, an HTPC, or some other box. Late really is better than never.
