RIM And Microsoft Agree On exFAT License Agreement
exFAT improves on its predecessor, the FAT system, and greatly expands the size of files that flash memory devices can handle by five times over previous FAT technology. It also increases the speed with which those files can be accessed. It's an interesting move. While most mobile players are encouraging users to store more and more in the cloud, it seems that RIM realizes that some files simply need to be local. And for business users, that kind of mindset may entice them to hang with the company for a few more months.
It'll surely be interesting to see how RIM puts the technology to use; they wouldn't have bothered working out such a deal without some fairly notable plans, you know?
