One of the most interesting smartphone launches last year was when Razer stepped into the mobile segment with a device called the Razer Phone. That launch spurred a number of other mobile device makers to step into the gaming phone segment. Fans of that original Razer Phone will be glad to hear that the device has performed well enough for Razer that the company has confirmed a second-generation device is in the works.

The confirmation came in Razer’s latest earnings report, and the company said that it is focusing its resources on the development of the new mobile device. Perhaps the most interesting thing that Razer has stated is not only that the development of the Razer Phone 2 is underway, but that part of that development includes software with a very interesting promise.

Razer claims this software will “extend its software and services from the PC into the mobile market.” Exactly how Razer will extend the software and services remains to be seen. The presumption is that the tech will involve some sort of game streaming from a PC to a smartphone.

Razer wrote in its earning reports, “With the successful launch of the Razer Phone in late 2017, Razer has since been widely recognized as the industry forerunner with the foresight of recognizing the unmet demand for and being the first-mover to launch a mobile device for gamers, spawning a whole new category for the industry. The Group is very pleased with the success of its first-generation Razer Phone, which was released in a limited run and has garnered very positive reviews internationally.”

As for specifications of the Razer Phone 2, speculation suggests a Snapdragon 845 SoC. Thinner bezels are extremely popular right now making that a likely change. The original Razer Phone launched in November, however, it’s not clear what time frame Razer is targeting for the launch of the new device.
