QNAP Launches TS-239 Pro NAS With iSCSI Support
iSCSI -- now there's something you don't hear very often. A feature that has traditionally been reserved for enterprise and small business users is finally making its way onto more consumer-level devices, first with Data Robotics' DroboPro and now with QNAP's TS-239.
The company's latest Atom-powered NAS looks pretty much exactly like its other TS-xxx devices, with this one boasting two bays, Intel's 1.6GHz Atom N270 and 1GB of DDR2 memory. It also features a DOM (Disk on Module) architecture, support for up to 4TB of space (with a pair of 2TB hard drives), twin Gigabit Ethernet ports, three USB 2.0 sockets, two eSATA ports and throughput of over 350MBit/s when 20 clients are accessing the NAS simultaneously.
Furthermore, the TS-239 Pro supports Windows, Mac, Linux and UNIX operating systems, and the built-in iSCSI target service enables up to eight iSCSI devices to hook in at once. Advanced users will also appreciate the Thin Provisioning, Online RAID Capacity Expansion, Online RAID Level Migration, AES 256-bit volume-based encryption, Wake on LAN, automatic policy-based IP blocking, instant SMS and email alert, BT and EMule download, schedule power on / power off and compatibility with IP cameras for network surveillance.
