It seems like an eternity has passed since
Plextor was best known for its line of premium optical drives (way back before you could pick up a DVD burner for $20). These days Plextor focuses the bulk of its attention on
solid state drives (SSDs), so it's not surprise the drive maker used CES as a springboard to announce its new M6 Series.
Plextor has various form factors covered with its M6 Series of SSDs. The new line consists of the 2.5-inch M6S, mSATA m6M, and PCI-Express based M6e, all of which use advanced 19nm Toggle NAND flash memory chips from Toshiba.
Plextor's M6e sports the latest generation Marvell 88SS9183 controller with multiple cores. It delivers read and write speeds of up to 770MB/s and 625MB/s, respectively, along with random read and write speeds of 105,000 and 100,000 IOPS, respectively. According to Plextor, the M6e is automatically recognized as an AHCI device and doesn't require any additional drivers.
Both the 2.5-inch M6S and mSATA M6M are available in capacities up to 512GB with 520MB/s read and 440MB/s write speeds. Both also deliver random read/write speeds of 94,000/80,000 IOPS.
Look for these drives to ship in the Spring. No word yet on price.
