Patriot Introduces Supersonic USB 3.0 Thumb Drive

USB 3.0 just keeps getting better, and faster. Patriot, which is probably best known for their solid state drives and memory modules, has just revealed a new USB 3.0 thumb drive. The Supersonic USB 3.0 lives up to its name, offering a native single-chip USB 3.0 controller as well as quad-channel technology that helps better take advantage of the bandwidth.


The Patriot Supersonic series eliminates performance bottlenecks introduced when using a separate USB 3.0 bridge chip by integrating a native USB 3.0 flash memory controller. This results in a smaller footprint and higher performance than bridge based solutions. The drive is housed in aluminum and is quite shock-resistant. It will ship in 32GB and 64GB versions, offering sequential read speeds of up to 100MB/s and write rates as high as 70MB/s. No pricing is listed at the moment, but it's probably safe to expect a price premium to follow these speed increases.

The Patriot Supersonic series breaks away from typical USB 3.0 flash drive and delivers blazing-fast performance with its Quad-Channel technology in a miniature ultra-light form factor.
