Move Over Netflix, Amazon Rolls Out Instant Video App for iPad
The streaming video wars are beginning to heat up. In addition to native Netflix and Hulu apps on Apple's iPad device, Amazon today announced that its Amazon Instant Video service is now available as a downloadable app for the world's most popular tablet device.
Amazon's video app brings more than 20,000 titles from its Prime Instant Video catalog to the iPad, along with several TV shows like Glee, Downtown Abbey, and Fringe.
"We want to give customers the convenience of being able to watch all of their movies and TV episodes, wherever they are, on their iPad," said Anthony Bay, Amazon.com vice president for video. "Today we’re excited to extend our ‘buy once, enjoy everywhere’ approach to iPad, giving customers the chance to enjoy more than 120,000 titles from Amazon Instant Video and more than 20,000 titles from Prime Instant Video anytime, anywhere."
Customers can now rent or purchase videos from Amazon and view them on their iPad tablet. Alternately, Prime members now have access to a selection of movies and TV shows that they're able to stream for free on their iPad. Amazon's Prime service runs $79/year (a one month free trial is available), which breaks down to a little less than $6.60/month, and offers free two-day shipping on many items
