Motorola Releases Xoom Sales Numbers

Previously, we told you that analysts were expecting Motorola to report weak sales of its new Xoom tablet.  Now, the official numbers are out, and they're not as bad as some analysts predicted. In fact, during its first-quarter earnings report, Motorola said it shipped 250,000 Xoom tablets in the first month the device was available.

The tablet, which was the first to ship with Google's Android Honeycomb OS, went on sale in late February. Although Motorola's sales numbers may not compare to Apple's initial numbers when shipping the iPad, the sales numbers for the Xoom are respectable.

Over the course of the year, Motorola expects to sell between 1.5 million and 2 million tablets. The company also plans to introduce new tablets this year. Some of these new tablets are expected to offer new form factors.
