Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Battle Mode Featured In New Trailer As Donkey Kong Dabs Onto Nintendo Switch

Donkey Kong Dab

Doing the "dab" did not work out so well for Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in Super Bowl L (50) when his team lost to the Denver Broncos by a score of 24-10. Maybe Donkey Kong will have better luck with it in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The iconic gorilla can be seen doing the dab a few minutes into a new overview trailer for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that showcases the games different elements on the Nintendo Switch.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an updated version of the three-year-old Mario Kart 8 title that was released for the Nintendo Wii U. It's coming to Nintendo's newest game console, the Switch, and will include the entire original game, along with all of the DLC that came after its release. On top of that, Nintendo added several new features the revamped Deluxe version, including new characters and new maps.

In total there will be 48 tracks to race your friends. It will also feature all of the original characters, plus new ones such as Splatoon inklings (male and female), Bowser, King Boo, Junior, and Dry Bones. All tallied, Switch owners will have access to over 40 racers. Between the number of tracks and racers, the new content ensures that game play should feel fresh for a long time.

Gamers will be able to race each other on land, under water, through skies, and in some cases even on walls and ceilings. As usual, there will be a bunch of different items that racers can pick up to dole out damage to other players and gain an edge. Other items grant special abilities—for example, the feather makes a comeback, allowing players to jump over opponents and obstacles.

Nintendo Switch

This should be another big title for the Switch. While Nintendo has been criticized for a lack of launch titles, the Switch is not without its hits. In particular, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been garnering extremely high praise from around the web.

The Switch is off to a strong start. Its first two days of sales set a new record for a Nintendo console, surpassing even the mighty Wii.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will release on April 28, 2017.
