Looxie Bluetooth Camcorder Goes On Your Ear, Tweets Your Life

We live in a world connected by social networking, but if you thought Facebook and Twitter were already overboard enough, you'll probably be horrified by this. But honestly, it's a pretty nifty idea, or a novel one at least. The Looxie wearable camcorder and social sharing system is the first wearable Bluetooth device designed to share more than just 140 characters of your day at a time.

With this device, which is described as an "easy-to-wear camcorder that videos everything the user sees," users can constantly video everything that they see. It's "always on," which is a little scary, but then again, we're sure there is an off-button on here somewhere for those more intimate moments. According to the company, a press of the instant clip button captures the last 30 seconds of video and stores it as a permanent clip on the device, so you can just go about your day and then hit the button just after something wild happens. Then it's logged, where you can upload to Twitvid and share with the world.

It's a pretty radical idea, but it may be too invasive to truly take off. Specs are as follows: around 1 oz., battery life of 4 continuous hours, 6+ hours of continuous talk time if not using video (yes, it's a Bluetooth headset as well), 15fps HVGA-quality video capture, onboard storage of up to 4 hours of video and DSP processing. It will be available on Amazon for $199 if you're ready to Tweet your life away.

Looxcie Launches First Wearable Camcorder and Social Sharing System
Wearable Bluetooth Camcorder Frees Consumers to Actively Participate in the Moments They Record; Allows Users to Go Back, Capture What's Happened, and Share It Instantly

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Looxcie, Inc. announced today the launch of Looxcie™ (look-see), the first small, light, easy-to-wear camcorder that videos everything the user sees. A Bluetooth-enabled headset, Looxcie fits comfortably on the ear and points where the user looks. Because it is always on, always videoing, users never have to worry about pressing a record button or missing a key event. When an unexpected moment occurs, a press of the instant clip button captures the last 30 seconds of video and stores it as a permanent clip on the device. Users can immediately share their clips by email while they're fresh and relevant. The accompanying Looxcie smartphone application also turns the phone into a viewfinder, remote control and editing tool for creating clips up to 30 minutes in length. "Looxcie frees people to remain engaged in what they're doing rather than be burdened by the technology," said Looxcie CEO Romulus Pereira. "We built Looxcie with the goal of freeing people to participate in life's moments as they happen, and to share these excerpts on the go, rather than wait until after the event and excitement has passed."

Looxcie currently operates with the majority of Android 2.0 and higher smartphones, with support for additional smartphone operating systems forthcoming. Clips can also be uploaded to a Mac or PC via the USB connector for archiving, viewing, editing or additional sharing. Users can also pre-program an Instant Share recipient so that when they "long-press" the instant clip button, Looxcie automatically sends the clip to the pre-determined email address. A complete list of compatible phones is available at www.looxcie/looxcie-app.html. Looxcie will be available for sale beginning today at Amazon.com  for a suggested retail price of $199.

"Our goal is to offer a wide selection and exclusive access to the latest and greatest consumer technologies," said Jim Adkins, director of wireless and mobile electronics for Amazon.com and AmazonWireless.com. "We are pleased to team with Looxcie to bring their next-generation solution to our customers."

Product Details:

Looxcie utilizes a dual processor system for video and Bluetooth communication so the headset can operate in video mode and talk mode at the same time, or separately.  Looxcie uses a mini processor for Bluetooth that includes a digital signal processing system to process and optimize the audio. The camcorder's mini video processor includes software by Looxcie that optimizes power use, automatically corrects for light and color, and formats video for mobile devices. These processing systems operate concurrently so users can simultaneously handle calls and capture video.
