Live, Streaming Video Coming to the iPhone
Soon, you’ll be able to watch free, live, streaming video on your iPhone thanks to a company called Ustream. Ustream.TV is a live interactive video broadcast platform that makes it possible for anyone with a camera and an Internet connection to quickly and easily broadcast to a global audience. Ustream was started in the summer of 2006 by John Ham, Brad Hunstable, and Dr. Gyula Feher in order to help overseas soldiers connect more efficiently with their families.
The yet to-be-released iPhone application will let users view any Ustream channel live. What’s more, users will also see and be able to participate in the live chat around the video as well.
Given the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, the timing for this application is perfect. With the application installed, you’ll be able to watch from anywhere, even if a TV or computer isn’t available.
Ustream is offering a limited number of beta invites/testers. To participate in the test, email iphone@ustream.tv to get Ustream’s viewing application on your iPhone. In addition, TechCrunch claims to have a handful of invites to give away as well, though they utilize the same email address. To snag one of these invites, TechCrunch says you must email your phone’s identifier number to iphone@ustream.tv so they can build a custom version for your phone using the iPhone SDK.
