Leaked Photo Shows Trays of iPhone 5S Batteries Suggesting Imminent Launch

Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) came and went with nary a new iPhone announcement, but that doesn't mean the Cupertino outfit isn't readying the launch of another generation of smartphones. Potentially serving as further evidence that Apple's close to announcing a new model, a French website posted what it claims are photos of iPhone 5S batteries.

The leaked photos show trays of batteries on the assembly line and supposedly were shot by a subcontractor working for Apple. These are early sample batteries that don't even have the appropriate connector attached just yet. Voltage and capacity are both unknown at this time.

Size-wise, the batteries appear to be the same dimension as the iPhone 5 battery, and according to the site that leaked the photo, they're indeed intended for an iPhone 5S model. Whether or not that's the case remains to be seen -- there have been rumors of Apple releasing different size iPhone models, including a less expensive model made of polycarbonate plastic.
