Instagram Video Upload Feature a Hit, Tops 5 Million Clips in First Day
That's great news for Facebook, which paid a whopping $1 billion for Instagram, and potentially bad news for Vine, which could suddenly find itself the second most popular short video app. Instagram's 130 million iOS and Android users quickly took advantage of the new feature, which allows them to record up to 15 seconds per clip and then apply one of several available filters. Recordings are automatically stabilized when uploaded.
At one point, Instagram users were uploading 40 hours of video per minute, the high point coming when the Miami Heat beat the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, giving LeBron James and company back-to-back titles and handing Tim Duncan his first-ever Finals series defeat in five appearances.
