Hulu Plus Enjoys Growth, Reaches 1.5 Million Subscribers By End Of 2011

Hulu Plus reached a new milestone at the end of 2011 with 1.5 million paying subscribers. This is pretty impressive when you consider this milestone was reached a little more than a year after the service's official launch. On the company's blog, Jason Kilar, the CEO of Hulu, noted that the number of Hulu Plus subscribers is continuing to grow extremely fast.

Some of the attraction and growth of Hulu Plus can be attributed to the expanded content. In 2011, Hulu's content offering grew approximately 40% compared to the previous year. Hulu Plus’ content offering grew more than 105% in that same time. Hulu Plus currently offers current season content from five of the six largest U.S. broadcast networks.

In addition to an expanded content offering, Hulu also expanded the reach of Hulu Plus through the development of apps that let users view the content from a number of devices. Hulu Plus offers apps for Microsoft Xbox 360, Amazon’s Kindle Fire, Barnes and Noble’s NOOK Tablet, some Android smartphones, LG, Panasonic and VIZIO TVs and Blu-ray players, and more.
