GTA Online’s Massive Gunrunning Update Arrives In June With Badass Weaponized Vehicles

Although its single-player campaign hasn’t seen much [update] action since its release, Rockstar Games continues to provide intriguing updates for the online component of Grand Theft Auto V: Grand Theft Auto Online. Rockstar announced today that a new “Gunrunning” expansion to Grand Theft Auto Online is arriving next month.

Gunrunning is all about skirting the law by introducing illegal arms trafficking to the mix. This underground network is primarily centered in Southern San Andreas. Gamers will be able to purchase underground bases in Blaine County — courtesy of the Maze Bank Foreclosure site — where you’ll be able to store all manners of potent military-grade weapons and defensive technologies.

These underground bunkers are accessed on the surface by hatches, will be home to on-site gun ranges, and include garage space for hordes of ultra-cool weaponized vehicles.

“While sharply dressed CEOs trade Special Cargo from lavish air conditioned suites, and leather-clad Bikers own the roadways moving illicit consumer goods,” writes Rockstar. “New opportunities are opening in a highly lucrative and equally malicious network hidden underground ripe for takeover by the VIPs, CEOs, and Biker bosses of Los Santos and Blaine County.”

Looking at the screenshots, especially those of the heavily armored vehicles, I can’t help but think of the 90s gem Interstate ’76, which allowed you to configure cars and trucks with massive amounts of firepower as you raced through the desert. The Gunrunning update for GTA Online definitely looks a lot better than the crude (by today’s standards) polygonal graphics of Interstate ’76 and even its Interstate ’82 successor.
