Google's $35 Chromecast Device Proves Popular, Now on Backorder for Several Weeks
Well for one, it's a brand new device that isn't nearly as robust as other higher dollar streaming solutions, but that's easy to live with since it's only $35. In fact, the low price tag has pushed demand through the roof, and if you go to order one today, you'll be looking at a wait time of several weeks, and possibly months.
Google Play, for example, lists new Chromecast orders as shipping in 2-3 week. And if you head over to Amazon, you're looking at waiting 2-3 months for new shipments.
Not surprisingly, some vendors and individuals are taking advantage of the scarce availability by jacking up the price. We've seen secondhand sellers list the Chromecast for over $100 (after shipping) on Amazon, or almost three times the listed MSRP.
If you really want one without waiting and/or paying a premium, Best Buy may be your best option. Online orders are shipping out in a little over a week, and you could always try visiting your local brick and mortar location to see if they have one in stock.
