Doh! Google Confirms Pixel 3a Branding And Specs In Website Leak

Pixel Phones
For the past few weeks, there has been a rumor floating around that Google would be releasing a couple of mid-range Pixel phones, called Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. Well, consider it essentially confirmed. Google leaked the names of both handsets on its Play Developer Console yesterday, and then again in the Google Store, along with a new Nest Hub Max product.

The leak in the Google Store was found in the navigation section. Google prematurely added a "Pixel 3a" listing in the Phone section, with the label "New" next to it. And under the "Featured Accessories" section, Google listed a "Google Pixel 3a Case" as well. Like the case for the regular Pixel 3, the new one for the Pixel 3a looks as though it will be made of fabric, as indicated by the URL (which is now dead).

Here's a look at the entries...

We also have a pretty good idea about the core specs of each handset. The entries in the Play Developer Console include a couple of codenames we have seen before: Sargo and Bonito. Spotted by ElegyD at Reddit, here are the specs for Bonito (Pixel 3a XL):
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Screen Size: 2160x1080
  • Screen Density: 400 DPI (around 6 inches)
  • SDK: Android 9 (SDK 28)
And here are the specs for Sargo (Pixel 3a):
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Screen Size: 2220x1080
  • Screen Density: 440 DPI (around 5.6 inches)
  • SDK: Android 9 (SDK 28)
Other specs are not listed, though according to 9To5Google, both handsets will feature an OLED screen with Active Edge squeezable sides, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor, 64GB of built-in storage, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and a 3,000 mAh battery. They will also carry a Titan M security chip.

It's not clear when these new handsets will launch or how much they will cost, though given the recent leak, we imagine they will show up soon.
