FreedomPop Announces Free Mobile Service Plans For The iPhone
That all changes today. FreedomPop has once again expanded its program to now include slightly older iPhone devices. The company will sell you a refurbished iPhone 5 model for $349, which you can then use on its no-cost "Basic 200 Monthly" plan. It includes 200 voice minutes, 500 text messages, and 500MB of 4G/3G data.
That's a great deal for light users, but if you need more than that, FreedomPop also offers two other plans. The first is "Unlimited Monthly" for $10.99/month (you can trial this tier for free for the first month), which includes unlimited voice, unlimited text, and 500MB of data (you can bump up to 1GB for an additional $9.99/month charge). Or you can pay upfront for FreedomPop's "Unlimited Annual" plan and save 35 percent. It runs $79.99 per year (that breaks down to $6.67 for month) and also includes unlimited voice, unlimited text, and 500MB of data, plus voicemail.
FreedomPop also allows you to bring your own iPhone, provided it's an iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, or iPhone 5 that's compatible with Sprint.
If you're considering FreedomPop, be sure to read through the fine print. There have been reports that if you use less than 5MB of data per month, you'll be assessed a $0.99 "Active Status" fee, even on the free plan. Most people wont' find the nominal charge to be a deal breaker, but it's something to be aware of.
