Facebook to Acquire Voice Recognition Startup Mobile Technologies
One unique feature of Jibbigo is that it's the world first speech translator on a phone that not only runs online, but offline as well.
"Facebook, with its mission to make the world more open and connected, provides the perfect platform to apply our technology at a truly global scale. We look forward to continuing to develop our technology at Facebook and finding new and interesting ways to apply it to Facebook’s long-term product roadmap," Mobile Technologies said in a statement.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, though Mobile Technologies said that once all the paperwork and legal maneuvering is finished, its staff will be joining Facebook at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
Tom Stocky, Director of Product Management at Facebook, was a bit vague in discussing what plans the social network has for its newest acquisition, saying only that the technology will help his company evolve its products over the long-term.
