Epic's Smash Hit Fortnite Battle Royale Game Is Heading To Android This Summer

Fortnite is perhaps the most popular game in the world at the moment thanks to its accessibility (it's available for PC, Mac, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, iOS), immersive gameplay and constant updates. Now, one major platform that has previously been left out will finally be able to join in on the fun.

In a "State of Mobile" blog post this morning, Epic Games announced that Fortnite will be coming to Android this summer. This is simply a "targeted" date, so the release could slip. However, the fact that it is in fact coming should be music to the ears of gamers using the world's most dominant mobile operating system.

In addition to the good news for Android users, Epic announced that it will allow customizations to the in-game HUD. You can move key UI elements around to suit your control preferences. The devs are also working to add voice chat to the mix for mobile users so that you can better communicate for your squad mates.

"We’re also looking to make it really easy to mute yourself, other players, or open up all communications with a simple tap," the Fortnite team writes. "There will be a button on the screen that lets you mute yourself, mute everyone in your party, or go back to open-microphone."

Epic has truly been listening to the concerns of mobile gamers and is taking steps to help reduce the installation size of Fortnite. You can expect to see improvements over the next few releases, and future patches will also see a reduction in size. As for actual game performance, a new Battery Saver mode is incoming that will allow you to sacrifice some graphics goodies to extend your playing sessions. Overall optimizations to game performance are also on tap for Fortnite.

The last major update to Fortnite happened last week when Epic released the short-lived “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup”. That update saw Thanos make an appearance in the game to wreak havoc on the expansive map.
