Electronic Arts Buys Digital Illusions

TechWeb is reporting that software publisher Electronics Arts has purchased Digital Illusions CE (DICE). DICE is well known for their role in the development of the widely popular Battlefield series of games.  This was a strictly cash offer by EA with the acquisition taking place immediately. Shareholders will be paid a cash value of $9.20/share on Oct 16 when the transaction completes.

DICE, based in Stockholm, Sweden, will be integrated into the EA studio, where it will work on Battlefield and develop new products for the PC, consoles and other platforms. DICE Chief Executive Patrick Soderlund would become an EA general manager and would remain in Stockholm, along with the other DICE leadership.
