Buffalo Revamps DriveStation Family, Adds Single-Drive "Axis"

Looking to beef up your storage potential? Who isn't, right? Buffalo is one of the bigger names in the dedicated storage business, and today they are refreshing their DriveStation family. That's a pretty robust family, with the DriveStation Duo and DriveStation Quad (formerly Quattro) seeing updates. The new multi-drive external units ship with NovaBACKUP Business Essentials, and if you aren't in need of multiple drives just yet, the newly announced DriveStation Axis should be perfect given its single-drive status.


The DriveStation Quad is a 4-drive, RAID enabled storage solution for small servers, creative professionals, offices and consumers requiring large, redundant and high-performance external storage; it's equipped with four hard drives, DriveStation Quad supports RAID 0, 5, 10 and Normal modes. It's also ready to support eSATA 3.0 and USB 2.0, and the company states that transfer rates of up to 235MB/s are possible.


The Duo holds up to two hard drives and offers similar features, though it peaks at 225MB/s with eSATA 3.0. It's equipped with a pair of quick swap hard drives, enabling users to setup the array in RAID 0 or RAID 1. The DriveStation Quad is available in late August at estimated street prices of $624.99 for the 4 TB (HD-QL4TSU2R5) and $1134.99 for the 8 TB (HD-QL8TSU2R5), while the Duo will ship next month for $274.99 for the 2 TB (HD-WL2TSU2R1) and $454.99 for the 4 TB (HD-WL4TSU2R1). The Axis, or the single-drive fellow, will ship next month for $104.99 for the 1 TB (HD-LB1.0TU2), $124.99 for the 1.5 TB (HD-LB1.5TU2) and $169.99 for the 4 TB (HD-LB2.0TU2).
