AT&T Addresses "MIssing" iPhone OS 3.0 Features
AT&T spokesperson Seth Bloom told Ars Technica:
"We absolutely will offer MMS on iPhone 3G S in the late summer, once we complete some system upgrades that will ensure our customers have the best experience with MMS. These upgrades are unrelated to our 3G network."Now maybe that has to do with what BGR found out. According to BGR, the reason for the MMS delay is that AT&T has to manually remove all the “Opt Out MMS codes” on each account. Now that would make sense in terms of the above statement that the reason is not related to their 3G network, but still, we would wonder why they needed these codes anyway. The OS didn't support it.
However, it is true that if you look at your account, you see MMS opted out, so perhaps that's why.
Finally, in terms of tethering, which AT&T promised, AT&T has nothing to add, except that it is coming. BGR has info that the plan will be a $70 unlimited data / tethering plan (the current data plan is $30).
