Apple Sets October 22 Date for Next Press Event, New iPad Models Likely on Tap
The invitation doesn't reveal what specific products are to be announced, with the only hints being the tagline ("We still have a lot to cover") and graphic, which shows the top of the Apple logo and a bunch of colorful leaves in the background.
It's not so much a matter of what Apple will unveil -- we pretty much know the event will feature new iPads, as well as some time devoted to new MacBook models and perhaps even OS X Mavericks -- but what the upgrades will entail. There's been a lot of talk about the next iPad mini boasting a Retina-class display, and at the same time, rumors of panel shortages have given some analysts pause for concern. It's still possible that Apple could launch an upgraded iPad mini device without a Retina-class display, but given that the expectation is there, the company would probably get hammered in the media and court of public opinion if it went that route.
It will also be interesting to see if the next batch of iPads come in a gold option like the iPhone 5S.
