Apple Quietly Intros 2TB Time Capsule For $499
For those unaware, Time Capsule is a high-end NAS drive that also acts as a full-fledged, dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) 802.11n wireless router. Apple shoves an enterprise-grade hard drive within and also adds three Ethernet ports in the back alongside a USB socket which can be used for connecting a wireless printer or hooking up external storage solution (HDD). Naturally, these provide added capabilities when used with a Mac, as OS X-based machines can take advantage of automatic Time Machine backups.
The new 2TB Time Capsule is available for order right now at $499, while the 1TB model now sits at $299--a $200 price drop from earlier this week. The older 500GB model has left production, but those looking for a smaller solution can find remaining refurbished inventory in Apple's online store for $199.
