Android Market Website Opens Up For Business
We knew there were big things in store for today's Android Event in
California, and Google didn't disappoint. The company has a history of
making pretty big announcements whenever they call upon the media to
attend their own special events, and this one was no different. One of
the major launches to come from Google today is the Android Market
website. It's hard to say if this is in response to the Apple Mac App
Store or not, but either way, it's something that Android users at large
have been asking for.
It's hard to believe, but the Android Market has only been alive for two years now. Today, it's home to over 100,000 applications, games and widgets. The new website will allow users to access and browse the Android Market from any standard web browser, particularly on PCs. The interface is obviously vastly improved, since there's so much real estate to work with. There are also new integrated social features, including the ability to share apps with friends via Twitter, read/post app reviews and the ability to download apps that you've already downloaded/purchased on your device.
The best part is that the new website is live today, so why not head over and check it out? You'll still need an Android device to run the apps, of course, but it's definitely a nicer way of viewing things and searching for new hidden gems that you want to install on your device.
