Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Zooms to Xoom Tablet

Yet another Android device is unwrapping Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). This time it's rolling out to Motorola Xoom tablet owners, and not just a select few who opted in to the Motorola Feedback Network. Now that Motorola has had a week to see how its tablet handles the upgraded OS, it's giving the OTA update its stamp of approval so anyone with a Xoom tablet can hop on the latest and greatest Google has to offer.

The update is called IML77 and is available to Xoom owners in the U.S. For rooted users who want a pre-rooted stock build, you can snag the appropriate firmware over at XDA's forum here, though not today since the site has temporarily gone dark to protest SOPA and PIPA, the pieces of legislation that threaten to muck up the Internet as we know it.

One thing that's interesting about this update is that it comes more than a week after it was rolled out to Asus Transformer Prime owners. If you recall, the Xoom was a Honeycomb reference tablet and is a Google Experience Device, so it's a bit curious that it would be a little behind the curve on this one. But hey, better a little bit late than never, right?
