AMD's Alleged Ryzen 3000 16-Core Zen 2 Beast CPU Benchmarked In Cinebench R15

Computex 2019 is less than a week away, which means that the rumormill is gearing up at a rapid pace ahead of the show. Over the past few months, we've been getting a flood of information on incoming 7nm Zen 2-based Ryzen 3000 processors from AMD. At first, we thought that the family would top out with 12-core processors, but we've since learned that there could be 16-core SKUs along for the ride as well.

The latest leak from the within AMD provides some additional alleged confirmation on these high-end Ryzen 3000 processors. The most impressive of the bunch will be the unnamed 16-core beast, which reportedly discovered running Cinebench R15 at 4.2GHz across all 16 cores. In this configuration, the chip was said to achieve a score of 4278 points on the multi-threaded benchmark.

For comparison, we were able to achieve a score of 3210 with the second-generation Ryzen Threadripper 2950X (Zen+). The current top dog Ryzen 7 2700X scores 1808 in the same multi-threaded benchmark. To give you an idea of how this compared to the Intel side of the equation, the Core i9-7980XE scored 3348 in the same benchmark.

Needless to say, if true, those are some impressive numbers for this Ryzen 3000-class processor. In fact, if the rumors that the third-generation Ryzen Threadripper family has either been canceled or delayed are also confirmed, we won't miss them one bit if we can get superior performance on new X570 (and older X470/X370) motherboards.

A week ago, we brought you news of Ryzen 3000 12-core benchmarks, albeit with an engineering sample that was likely not using final clocks. Today, we're hearing that this chip will have a boost clock of 5GHz. At this time, the base clock is unknown.

As with any unreleased information surrounding Zen 2, we want to approach these numbers with a healthy dose of skepticism. But if AMD's previous promises of the performance smackdown that it will deliver with its 7nm process node come to fruition, Intel could be in for big fight on the back half of 2019.
