Alienware Refreshes Gaming Notebook Line With NVIDIA 600 Series GPUs
Alienware has updated its M14x, M17x, and M18x gaming notebooks, and the marquee feature change is support for NVIDIA 600 series graphics. On the lower end, the stock M14x will come packing the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M (1GB GDDR5), and the M18x can be configured with up to dual GTX 675Ms (2GB GDDR5 each), with other graphics variations in between, all with PCI-E 3.0 support.
Otherwise, the updates to the gaming notebooks are solid but don’t provide quite the same sizzle. For example, all three systems offer Intel Core i7 options, but the chips are all Sandy Bridge; users will still have to wait a while for Ivy Bridge, it appears.
Memory options are plentiful, starting with 6GB of DDR3-1600MHz running all the way up to 32GB of DDR3-1600MHz; the M14x is capped at 16GB of system memory, though.
The M14x, M17x, and M18x start at $1,099, $1,499, and $1,999 respectively, with plenty of room to scale up in price and features.
