Acer Will Launch 7-inch And 10-inch Tablets In 2011

Acer plans to offer two or three new tablet PCs in the first half of this year. One of the new tablets will offer a seven-inch screen. The largest of the new tablets will feature a 10-inch screen. The new tablets will use Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors and run on the Android operating system.

According to Taiwan sales manager Lu Bing-hsian, Acer’s new tablets are slated to replace Acer’s current laptop-style of netbooks. The tablet launches will represent a gradual replacement to keep in line with market demands. "They are aimed at phasing out netbooks," he said. "That’s the direction of the market."

Even though Acer’s new tablets will replace some of Acer’s current netbooks, the company doesn’t plan to exit the netbook market—the company will still manufacture netbooks. However, Acer plans to stick with simple models and will offer fewer models than the company has in the past.

According to Bing-hsian, the new tablets will be faster than laptops that run on Windows. They will also use a four-core processor. Additional product details are not yet available.
