1.21 Gigawatts: Tesla Easter Egg Takes Your Model 3 Or Model X 'Back To The Future'
Tesla's latest Easter Egg will have you yelling "Great Scott," because "you're about to see some serious sh*t!" It was found by a redditor earlier this week who just so happened to stumble across the Back to the Future reference in the Tesla iOS app. When your Tesla EV has 121 miles of range left, you simply tap on the battery icon within the app which will enable the Easter Egg.
Of course, the 121 miles of range is an obvious reference to 1.21 gigawatts -- the amount of power needed to make time travel possible with the kickass, gull-wing DeLorean (oh, and we can't forget about getting up to 88 mph).
From there, the movie references continue to pour out, as your charging screen is modified to say "Fuel Chamber," while the location of your vehicle is changed to 1600 S Azusa Ave, Rowland Heights, California. For those not in the know, this is the location of Puente Hills Mall, which is where the DeLorean's time travel capabilities were first put on display in the original film.
You’re able to turn the “Time Circuits On”, after which you are clearly “Outatime”. Another cool touch is that the next service date for your vehicle is listed as November 5th, 1955 – the exact date when Doc Brown took a bump to the noggin’ and came up with the idea for the flux capacitor.
About the only thing missing at this point is the app screaming “Hello McFly!” at you. We must say, we’ve got to hand it to Tesla for having a sense of humor and taking the time to program these little trinkets into its vehicles and the supporting software platforms. Besides, this Back to the Future-themed Easter Egg is infinitely more “mature” than the company’s previous Fart app.
Hopped in my @Tesla this morning and was delighted to find “romance mode” and a drop-down list of juicy, on demand fart noises, that can be triggered with a wheel click or turn signal.
