Android 4.4 KitKat Launch Date Unveiled By German Nestle Facebook Page

Leaks are all-too-common in the tech industry, and really, they can come from virtually anywhere. Sometimes, people at the source of the product manufacturing could spill the beans, and other times, people at the company's HQ can feel a little mischievous. Sometimes, it could even be a completely unrelated party, such as a company related to the product by name alone.

On its German Facebook fan page, Nestle beat Google to the punch by announcing Android 4.4's release date: " Android 4.4 KIT KAT ist ab Oktober verfügbar." According to my excellent Google Translate skills, I've deciphered that to be "Android 4.4 Kit kat is available in October." Well then, there we have it.

At this point, Google still hasn't confirmed the date itself, but it seems as though October will be a big month as far as Android goes. It's been expected that the long-rumored Nexus 5 smartphone will launch right alongside Kit Kat, so we could be seeing that next month as well.

One thing that any Android fan is curious about once a new OS version drops is what devices are going to support it. It can go without saying that the current Nexus 4, 7 and 10 will support it, though it seems somewhat unlikely that the first-gen Nexus 7 will (I'd like to be proven wrong). As for other vendors, we can only hope they won't take too long rolling out the OS to their flagship phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, LG G2 and HTC One X+.
