This deal has been spinning on the back burner for years now, but unfortunately for AMD, the whole thing is going to be drawn out just a wee bit longer. If you'll recall, AMD had struck a number of deals that would essentially enable it to spinoff its manufacturing plants. Agreements had been made that would see Advanced Technology Investment, an Abu Dhabi state-owned venture capital firm, invest $2.1 billion (at least initially) for a 55.6 percent stake in the joint venture; out of that chunk, $700 million would head directly to AMD. A few months ago, Asus and Gigabyte announced that they'd be entering into a joint venture to build Gigabyte-branded motherboards and graphics cards.  An initial investment of $244M dollars was to be made, with Gigabyte owning 51% of the company.  It turns out the plan wasn't such a great idea and deal is off. "A spokesman of GIGABYTE said a resolution of the board of directors was passed on the Mar 22 to call off the plan of forming joint venture. Intel and Micron Announce Advancements in NAND Flash Memory Joint Venture SANTA CLARA, Calif., and BOISE, Idaho, Nov. 6, 2006 - Intel Corporation and Micron Technology Inc., today announced they are ahead of schedule on their development of the NAND flash memory joint venture, IM Flash Technologies. Since the formation of IM Flash in January, the companies have brought online a state-of-the-art 300 millimeter (mm) NAND fabrication facility in Manassas, Virginia, and a Lehi, Utah, 300mm facility is on track to be in production early next year. What was rumor yesterday seems to be confirmed today.  According to Digitimes, a joint venture between Asus and Gigabyte is in fact in the works.  It's a strategic move which aims to block a potential acquisition of Gigabyte by Foxconn and lower Gigabyte's production cost to help them better compete with ECS and MSI. "The Asustek-Gigabyte joint venture will be established with an initial capital of NT$8 billion (US$244 million), with 51% of the company being controlled by Gigabyte and 49% by Asustek.
