Apple has begun notifying macOS users that 32-bit applications will not work on future versions of the operating system. It's not clear when exactly Apple will phase out support completely, but in the meantime, users can expect to see one-time alerts when firing up a 32-bit app, starting with macOS High Sierra 10.13.4. This gives them time to prepare accordingly, though 32-bit apps will continue to run and function properly for the time being. Why the change? Just before the end of 2017, NVIDIA dropped a bit of a bombshell: it'd be soon dropping support for 32-bit OSes with its GeForce GPU drivers. Admittedly, such a move was inevitable, as x64 OSes have been available to mainstream audiences for at least 13 years, with Windows XP Professional x64 Edition having released on April 25, 2005. The end is now nigh, and NVIDIA has laid out all of the details on its support website. First and foremost, NVIDIA plans to drop all 32-bit GPU driver support on the GeForce side effective this month. Security releases will continue to be issued until January 2019. The time has come for gamers and enthusiasts to ditch their 32-bit operating system (assuming you haven't already), because NVIDIA has announced that it will no longer support drivers for these operating systems. If you have been hobbling along on an old 32-bit version of an OS to save some money, perhaps Santa can bring you a 64-bit OS. NIVIDIA says that support will end after the 390 driver release. Software developers take note, Apple wants to phase out 32-bit apps completely from iOS. Starting with iOS 10.1, mobile device owners who opened up an old 32-bit app received a warning that the app could slow down their gadget until the developer updates it to improve compatibility.
