Why Wii Will Win

Yes, the Nintendo Wii. Despite what you may think of the name, the console does show plenty of promise. But will it really beat out Sony or Microsoft in the upcoming console wars? Microsoft has had their XBox 360 out for sometime now, and we still don't know much about the PS3, but Nintendo has been steadily leaking information from time to time. Here's hoping we get more info on both the PS3 and the Wii during this years E3.

"Last year, when we first learned about Wii's (then-named Revolution) unique controller, we published this article explaining why we thought Nintendo was on the right path to regaining the console throne. At that point in time we knew very little about the Wii and knew even less about the Playstation 3. Time has passed and information has been made public about both consoles, albeit more so about the Wii than the PS3. After taking everything in and looking at the current state of the industry we still feel very strongly about Wii's potential to be extremely popular with consumers."

Like I said, the console shows a lot of promise, but I don't know if it's really going to outsell the PS3 or XBox 360. It really depends on how well the non gamer market wants to get into video games. The whole idea with the console and its controller is the simplicity factor. Nintendo is targeting the folks who are scared of the big bad XBox 360 controller. However, with games like Cold Steel, Nintendo is also trying to please the hardcore gamer crowd. Can they cater to the needs of hardcore and casual gamers at the same time? Possibly, but they're going to need a lot of help from third party developers.
