DigiTimes reports that NVIDIA's recent final acquisition of ULI might be leading to some interesting scenarios in terms of chipset names. Here, sources have told DigiTimes that NVIDIA might be renaming either current or newly released chipsets to reflect the new ownership. In one example, the ULI M1697 was rumored to possibly be renamed the NVIDIA M1697 chipset. On the surface, this seems like a painfully bland naming convention. However, can you image the irony and marketing stress ATI would face if the M1575 southbridge used for most ATI-based motherboards was renamed the NVIDIA M1575? Without question, it would certainly be interesting to see both logos on the same motherboard box.
