T-Mobile Trumpets Unlimited Data and Texting Worldwide at No Additional Cost
The nation's 4th largest wireless carrier is pitching new plans that offer unlimited data and texting at no extra charge in over 100 countries. By doing so, T-Mobile can (and does) claim that its home data coverage is larger than AT&T's and Verizon's combined.
"The cost of staying connected across borders is completely crazy," said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile US, Inc. "Today's phones are designed to work around the world, but we're forced to pay insanely inflated international connectivity fees to actually use them. You can't leave the country without coming home to bill shock. So we're making the world your network - at no extra cost."
According to Legere, using your phone abroad as you normally would at home can often total $1,000 per day, prompting more than 40 percent of customers to turn off roaming. It doesn't have to be that way. Starting October 31, T-Mobile is expanding the home data coverage for most Simple Choice customers to include countries from all around the world. There's still a charge for voice calls when roaming, but it's 20 cents a minute.
Eligible customers on T-Mobile's Simple Choice plan needn't do a thing. There's nothing to activate and no extra fees associated with this.
