The Daily Headed for Android Tablets in Q2
It's truly no surprise that The Daily would have an Android version. In fact, with the new Honeycomb-based tablets coming to the market, starting with the Motorola Xoom on Thursday, Feb. 24, it's obvious that The Daily would have to support the new tablet-specific version of Android.
It's unclear that this will continue to be the case. While compared to other single devices, the iPad will likely dominate, but as with Android smartphones, there is a decent chance that Android will gradually ... and eventually overtake iOS in terms of tablet platforms. Gartner recently released a report stating that Android is now the No. 2 smartphone platform, trailing only Symbian.
The Daily is News Corp.'s "newspaper," but at the same time the company reportedly received a lot of technical support from Apple. Although Steve Jobs did not appear at The Daily’s launch event, he was expected to, as it was such a big event. It was possibly due to his health issues, that he skipped it, instead sending Apple’s vice president of Internet services, Eddy Cue.
