TeleNav Announces Navigator for Android Phones

Later this month, T-Mobile G1 users will be able to navigate their destination using a new full-color, 3D, turn-by-turn GPS navigation service from TeleNav. The new service will be available February 24 and will include speech recognition, traffic alerts with one-click rerouting, more than 10 million business listings, gas prices, weather updates, and restaurant reviews.

TeleNav GPS Navigator displays full-color 3D moving maps and also provides voice and on-screen turn-by-turn driving directions. You can view the navigational instructions and map in landscape or portrait mode. Should you miss a turn, the service will automatically reroute you.

Telenav on G1For easy address entry and easy searching, TeleNav GPS Navigator also includes speech recognition. On the T-Mobile G1, you’ll be able to press a button and speak the name of a business or the address to get directions. TeleNav GPS Navigator will then search for the destination and provide directions.

The TeleNav GPS Navigator’s point of interest database has more than 10 million businesses and services, including restaurants, hotels, shopping malls, and banks. The service also provides updated gas price listings so you’ll be able to find the cheapest gas along your route.

While navigating, TeleNav GPS Navigator monitors the route for traffic and will alert you with audible and on-screen notifications should there be an upcoming traffic problem. Commuters can also choose to receive daily traffic commute alerts via email.

For easy planning, you can prepare trips online or you can use the My TeleNav Internet browser plug-in for Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Google to send an address directly to your phone from any Web page. The free plug-in is available from http://www.telenav.com/support/plugins/.

Interested users can test drive the new TeleNav GPS Navigator for 30 days for free using the trial on TeleNav's Web site. After the free period, the service costs $9.99 per month for unlimited use. Later this year, TeleNav GPS Navigator is also expected to be available in the Android Market.
