Sprint Continues LTE Rollout, Announces New Markets

Sprint is racing to catch up to other carriers who already have extensive 4G LTE rollouts. Today, the wireless carrier announced another rollout of its 4G LTE network. Including today's new markets, Sprint now offers 4G LTE service in 32 metropolitan areas. In the coming months, Sprint plans to offer service in more than 115 additional cities.

With this expansion, customers in the following areas will now have access to Sprint's 4G LTE network:

  • Chicago Area Suburbs: Addison, Bolingbrook, Des Plaines, Downers Grove, Kankakee, Rockford, Joliet, Naperville, Palatine and Plainfield
  • Gary, IN
  • Hutchinson and McPherson, KS
  • New Bedford and Fall River, MA
  • Wichita Falls, TX

By adding 4G LTE service in these markets, Sprint says its network can now handle more voice and data traffic. As a result, users in these areas should see faster and more reliable connections for sending text messages, surfing the Web, and downloading videos. Sprint will continue to announce additional cities in the coming months.

Considering Sprint introduced its 4G LTE network in July 2012, the carrier has made good progress towards a relatively quick rollout. By the end of 2013, Sprint intends to have largely completed its nationwide build-out of its 4G LTE network.
