Latest Sony PlayStation 5 Rumors Hint At 2GHz Radeon Navi GPU And February 2020 Unveil

This information comes to us from Twitter user Komachi, who has previously given us details on the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Project Scarlett. According to Komachi, there are currently engineering samples for the PlayStation 5’s Oberon APU running around at three different clock speeds. The first, Gen0, is running at rather unremarkable 800MHz, while Gen2 is clocked at an incredible 2GHz.

To put that in perspective, at 2GHz, the PlayStation 5's RDNA-based GPU is dishing out at least 9.2 TFLOPs according to Is A Parrot. For comparison, the GeForce RTX 2070 and GeForce RTX 2080 can hit 7.5 TFLOPs and 10.1 TFLOPs respectively. The closely related Radeon RX 5700 and Radeon RX 5700 XT are rated at 7.95 TFLOPs and 9.75 TFLOPs respectively. The Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro are rated at 6 TFLOPs and 4.2 TFLOPs respectively. 

BREAKING: THIS IS PS5. According to this leak- the GPU will be clocked at an insane 2ghz.

This equates to 9.2 TF on the RDNA architecture. Or roughly 14 TF on the GCN Architecture aka over double the power of the X1X. Almost RTX2080 power.

Another link has been discovered adding credibility to the previous leak.

3. Oberon clocks of 800 mhz and 911 mhz are a that of PS4 and PS4 Pro for backwards compatibility

No matter how you slice it, the PlayStation 5 will be a powerful system that should easily be able to achieve the 4K performance goals that Sony has set. And unlike the Radeon RX 5700 family, the PlayStation 5 will support real-time ray tracing.

The PlayStation 5 will be going head-to-head with Project Scarlett, which is also powered by an AMD Zen2-based CPU and a Navi GPU. Xbox chief Phil Spencer recently stated in an interview that Microsoft is placing a heavy emphasis on overall system performance.

"I think the area that we really want to focus on next generation is frame rate and playability of the games," said Spencer. "Ensuring that the games load incredibly fast, ensuring that the game is running at the highest frame rate possible."

Sony is rumored to announce the PlayStation 5 on February 12^th2020; there is no rumored unveil data for Project Scarlett at this time.
