Skytex Offers Up Inexpensive 9.7" And 7" Tablets, Both With Android 4.0
If you had any doubts about Android tablets being a dime a dozen these days, let those doubts rest. Skytex Technology, a company that most of you have probably never heard of, has just announced not one, but two new tablets. And moreover, they're both shipping in an elite group: a group of products that supports Android 4.0. At last count, right around 10% of all Android products were at the 4.0 level, so if you've been waiting for an Ice Cream Sandwich device, perhaps one of these will fit the bill.
First, there's the 9.7" Skypad Protos, which is retailing for $279. Then, there's the 7" Skypad Gemini, which will sell for $100 less. Both units are slated to ship early this month, and in addition, users will have access to productivity suites, premium and free cloud services including 5GB storage. Within the shell, you'll find a 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor paired with Mali-400 graphics. There's also Bluetooth support, 8GB of internal storage and 1GB of memory. The 9.7" edition will ship in glossy black or white, with a wide-view IPS panel, 6000mAh battery, 5MP camera on the rear, 2MP camera on the front, a mini-USB port, microSD card slot and support for 1080p HD video.
