Sanyo's Xacti VPC-PD2BK Pocket Camcorder Captures 1080p And 10MP Images

Pocket camcorders have come a long way. They started out almost entirely made from one single company, Pure Digital, and the Flip branding has now bled over into a generic term for a camcorder that fits in your pocket. Today, the world has a lot more options to choose from, including a new one from Sanyo. The company is expanding their long running Xacti lineup with a new 1080p model with a 3x optical zoom, proving that you don't need something huge to capture Full HD.

The new VPC-PD2BK captures 1920x1080 at 30p, and it ships with embedded software for easy use and sharing on social networks. It's the only one out right now that can shoot 1080p video as well as 10MP images, all while offering a 3x optical zoom range. The entire device is about the size of a deck of cards, and the $169.99 retail price is certainly reasonable in our eye. It captures audio via dual microphones on the sides, and it can easily upload to YouTube, Facebook and Picasa. There's even a built-in USB plug in case you forget your cable, and files can be saved to SD, SDHC or SDXC cards. Not a bad combination of specs; it'll ship next month.
