Samsung's ChatON 2.0 Messaging Program Released With New Features

When it comes to communication apps, it's tough to even wade through all of the options. There's Viber, Skype, WhatsApp, Kik, iMessage, BBM -- the list goes on and on. But for those picking up a Samsung product, there's one app that hits you right square in the fingertips: ChatON. Samsung has this week announced the second major version of ChatON, placing the app at version 2.0. It's now available in over 200 countries in more than 60 languages, offering instant messaging and group chatting in multiple formats—images, video, voice, contacts. It also works across form factors, including phones, tablets, connected cameras, web browsers and even phablets.

The new build offers up a multiscreen feature enables a user to chat with up to five connected devices using a single account, and users can now also invite friends to ChatON conversations from a wider variety of platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Weibo. Like a micro social network, ChatON 2.0 allows users to create their own personal profiles and post status updates for friends to see and comment on. The comments can be posted to profile pages whether the user is on or offline, and ChatON’s Interaction Rank gives users useful information and statistics about their conversations with friends.

ChatON 2.0 enables plenty of customization and personalization of the messaging experience. Users can create their own animated messages by adding pictures or recorded audio clips, or choose from animated emoticons to add a touch of color and fun to conversations. Additionally, both the background and the speech bubble-chat display can be changed to suit individual tastes, and a wide selection of fonts caters for many languages. Best of all, the new ChatON is totally free, and it'll come preloaded on all Samsung mobile devices.
