Samsung Galaxy S6 Series Finally Receives Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update

It's often said that good things come to those who wait, and if you're an owner of a Galaxy S6 series device, you've been patiently awaiting the arrival of an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. Well, good news folks—Marshmallow has finally arrived for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge with updates being doled out over-the-air (OTA) today.

Galaxy S6 Edge owners stand to benefit the most—not only do they receive all the benefits of Marshmallow in general, but they're also getting an enhanced edge screen with new features via this update.

"Samsung has taken the unique user interface of the beautifully curved edge screen to the next level, making it faster and more convenient than ever to perform daily tasks and get the information you need, all with a simple swipe and tap," Samsung said.

More specifically, you can now widen the edge panel to 550 pixels, which in turn allows more content to be displayed. With a wider display now available, Samsung say it all but eliminates the need to navigate disorganized home screens and continuously open and close apps, if that's what you've been doing.

After the update, you'll be able to customize up to nine panels, including the People edge and Apps edge panels. These are enhanced as well. Prior to the update, the People edge panel only showed small photos of your top five contacts. Now they show contact names underneath their icons. Samsung also added a shortcut to the settings menu. And as for the Apps edge panel, Samsung doubled the number of apps to 10.

"Samsung’s feature-rich edge screen display continues to push the envelope with its recent updates. But this is only a sign of what’s to come, as Samsung will continue to refine and enhance the unique edge not only on its existing devices, but also on ones to come," Samsung said.

For other upgradeable models, Samsung said it will make separate announcements once an update to Marshmallow arrives.
