Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Now Comes With Prominent Warning About Improperly Inserting Stylus
If you insert the Galaxy Note 5's S Pen into the device the wrong way -- blunt end first -- not only is it likely to get permanently wedged into the device, it can also break the handset's ability to detect when the S Pen is in or out. Some users found that out the unfortunate way, so Samsung is now including a warning sticker on new handsets.
An unboxing video of the Galaxy Note 5 Gold Platinum for use on T-Mobile's network shows the new warning label. It instructs users to "Be sure to insert your S Pen with the nib pointed inward. Inserting the S Pen the wrong way can cause it to become stuck and can damage the pen and your phone."
This is a definite design flaw of the Galaxy Note 5. While it may seem careless to insert the S Pen backwards into the handset, it's actually very easy to do because it fits in the slot the same up until you reach the point of no return. It's not at all like trying to force a square peg into a round hole.
If you (or your kids) do manage to slide the S Pen into the Galaxy Note 5 with the wrong end first, don't panic. Forcing it out will break the sensor and you'll never hear that nifty "swoosh" sound again, but with a little bit of patience and a piece of paper, you can extract an improperly inserted S Pen without damaging the phone. Given the media attention this issue has received, we'd be surprised if Samsung didn't see fit to roll back the design for its inevitable Galaxy Note 6, which will likely release in the second half of 2016. It wasn't possible to insert the S Pen backwards in Galaxy Note releases prior to the Galaxy Note 5.
